Artist Statement
I'm drawn to the edge where the land slips out of man's grasp crashing to the ocean. I love the chaos of the coastline, the mess of rocks and soil, the broken torn edges that are re-arranged twice daily. A place where few people go but a lot happens, unobserved, the continuous dialogue between weather, water and rock, land sea and sky.
Working here I turn my back on the order and regimen humanity has imposed and engage with wilderness. The energy and isolation, physical and practical struggle, risk and danger that I brush with invigorating line, heightening colour.
Whether working fast to capture the intensity of the experience before the magic of the moment passes or working quietly in a place where everything is still but poised it is always for me both extreme and compelling.
